Scope and Contents

Two letters from 17-year-old Caroline to her friend Elizabeth H. Prichard [Hoar]. The letter of May 18, 1838, dates to the day after the Pennsylvania Hall fire set by a pro-slavery mob. The first page and half of the letter is a light, youthful account of her travels, but the tone changes on the third page, where Caroline desribes the convention and riot.
