The bulk of the collection consists of 1,381 sermons delivered by Blackmer between 1898 and 1956. There are also some addresses, prayer meeting talks, sermon outlines, job-study broadcasts, and funeral addresses.

Biographical / Historical

Walter Raymond Blackmer (AC 1897) was born in Belchertown, Massachusetts, on October 28, 1875. He attended Belchertown High School and Amherst High School before joining Amherst College. He graduated from Amherst College in 1897, and from Hartford Theological Seminary in 1900. He held several pastorates at Congregational churches in Ohio, Vermont, and New York between 1900 and 1954. From 1954 until his death in 1965, he organized and taught a men's Social Service class at the Belchertown Congregational Church in Belchertown, Massachusetts. In 1900, Blackmer married Nellie Louise Rice, who died in 1940; in 1941, he married Christine P. Williams. Blackmer died of pneumonia in Ware, Massachusetts, on June 7, 1965.

Within each series, arrangement is chronological. Items in Series 1 and Series 2 are numbered sequentially.
