Examinations given at Amherst College from 1849 to 1967. The collection includes entrance examinations, final exams, midterms and various in-class tests, examination schedules, as well as examinations for awards and honors.

Abstract

Examinations given at Amherst College from 1849 to 1967. The collection includes entrance examinations, final exams, midterms and various in-class tests, examination schedules, as well as examinations for awards and honors.

Arrangement

Examinations are arranged in two series by date and by subject. The series largely duplicate each other, with Series 1, Examinations by Date, being the most complete.

The papers are organized into 2 series:
  1. Series 1: Examinations by Date, 1849-1967
  2. Series 2: Examinations by Subject, 1900-1953

Custodial History

For the most part, the examinations in this collection were collected by the Library, and later the Archives, as they were created. Early examinations were bound into volumes and are now available in the Amherst College Bound Memorabilia Collection. Later examinations were filed in two parallel series by date and by subject. Additional examinations from other sources may have been added over the years.
