Board of Trustees Records. Secretary of the Board

 Record Group
Identifier: RG 001-002

Scope and Contents

This record group contains material maintained by the secretary of the Amherst College board of trustees. The series are organized chronologically by the individual holding the position of secretary. The tenures of Edward Tuckerman Esty and Eugene Smith Wilson as secretary are not directly reflected in this group. Series consist of correspondence, meeting minutes, committee files, and more general subject files. While there may be some overlap with other groups in the Board of Trustees record group, these are not official records. Rather, they should be considered materials accumulated by the secretary in the course of conducting trustee business.

The collection is organized into three series, arranged chronologically by tenure. The date range of a series is often wider than the dates of a secretary's tenure due to a secretary inheriting papers of his predecessor.
