Amherst College Committee Records
Identifier: RG 012-001
Scope and Contents
Records of about 200 various Amherst College committees, including draft, interim and final reports, supporting documents and correspondence. Some committees are formal standing committees, but the majority are ad-hoc temporary bodies often convened as presidential advisory committees or task forces. In many cases, files contain only final reports (sometimes both interim and final reports), rather than supporting documents related to the committee's work in producing those reports. (More detailed supporting documentation can sometimes be found elsewhere in the Archives; see "Related Material" or consult an archivist.)

Language of Materials
Records of some 200 various Amherst College committees, including draft, interim and final reports, as well as (in some cases) minutes, correspondence and other supporting documents. Some committees are formal standing committees, but the majority are ad-hoc temporary bodies often convened as Presidential advisory committees or task forces.
This collection is organized into two series:
- Series 1: Unrestricted Committee Records, 1826-2006
- Series 2: Restricted Committee Records, 1832-2010
The records are organized alphabetically by the main heading or topic associated with each committee. Generic descriptors such as "Committee on…" and "Task Force on…" are omitted. For example, "Committee on Area Studies" would be filed under "Area Studies, Committee, on."
Many of the committee records are housed within the General Files collection.
