Biographical / Historical

Charlotte J. Smith (Charlotte Jen [or Jones] Woods Smith (lived 1830-1881) was the daughter of Josiah Bridges Woods and Frances Belcher Woods, and the sister of Rev. Robert McEwen Woods (AC 1869) and Frances C. Woods Kimball. Charlotte was a member of the Mount Holyoke Female Seminary Class of 1848. Charlotte married Edward P. Smith in 1855; the couple did not have children. Charlotte Smith died in August, 1881.

Note that it is unclear whether Charlotte's middle name is Jen or Jones. An early record in the town of Enfield lists it clearly as Jones, but some family notes say Jen. The Enfield note is in a compilated volume and "Jones" could be a transcriber's error from an even earlier record.
