Scope and Contents

1 of 6 folders of letters (approximately 28 letters total) from Clara Martineau (lived 1874-1932), the third woman to serve as a councillor on the Birmingham (England) City Council. She represented Edgbaston for 19 years and worked for many social causes before and during her work as a councillor. She seems to have met Beth and Sam Bowles during travel in Europe and the Middle East in [1901]. Her letters speak of personal, political, and social matters.
